Summonig the Night by Jenn Bennet is the second book in her Arcadia Bell series, following up on Kindling the Moon. Anybody who hasn't read the first book will want to avoid this review, since reviewing this book will spoil some big stuff in the first book.
The Snatcher has returned. The Snatcher was a serial killer who was kidnapping children before Halloween 30 years ago. Now Halloween is coming up and children have started disappearing again. Cady and her Earthbound boyfriend Lon get calling in by the head of the hellfire club to investigate. Turns out all the children taken were earthbound, putting Lon's son Jupe square in the crosshairs.
Let me jump to the conclusion. There is nothing specifically wrong with this book. But at the same time nothing stands out, so in that sense it commits the cardinal sin of being mediocre. The book is entirely forgettable.
The book is not bad. Don't think that. Its just not really good either. It tries, but it all comes across a little flat. There are attempts at big plot twists, but they come nowhere near to living up to the serial killer parents twist from the first book. The relationship drama with Jupe getting the tattoo rings false and doesn't add the emotion it should. Cady constantly panicking does nothing to ratchet up the tension, it just makes her seem a silly.
All in all, this book is entirely skippable.
